Birthday Plans

Hi all,
So here we go getting organized for dad's party.
This is what I think would be good and please add yes or or no in the comments or post a new post.
Cold cuts and buns.
Salads I like to make Cesar salad /bean salad.
Pies - he doesn't like cakes.  We could all make two pies each.....
Raisin is his old best choice.

  1. I like all those ideas. I know the pie idea will be a hit. For those of us that curse when rolling out pie dough I give permission to buy a pie. However if a really creative mood strikes I may roll up my sleeves and give it a go.
Pictures well I know I have boxes and boxes of them so I'll have a look this week for a good pic of Dad with his daughters.
Music there will be music. I know Jan and I plan to play My Love is like a Red Red Rose by Robbie Burns.
Susie how about you on violin with Be Thou My Vision?
What was the other hymn again?

Oh I guess we should all get in on the two Hymns. Don't forget your cello Philly.

  3. Would corn on the cob be a good idea? How many people will be there?

  4. The other hymn is Lord of the Dance. I love corn.
    Sounds great.

  5. I have compiled a beginning list which may be around 50 people. I thought that I would get some great paper and compose an invitation which I will add here for proofreading if that is possible. First I have to get through the dr. appt. tomorrow am. Despite how your Dad is walking, he claims he has no pain in his right leg- according to him his wobbly stance is caused by the wrong glasses but he absolutely refuses to see the optometrist- please, if I am like this at 89 tell me about it in no uncertain terms! I have no idea what he will say to Dr. J.! I think the pies are a good idea and maybe I still need a smaller cake because candles on 6-8 pies could be tricky. I suggest if we do have corn that it might be for the family back at the house in the evening. I am still having repercussions over the two cobs I ate on two separate days. I talked with Sharon about food and we can get most of it here at Cosco, especially when we need quantity. Do you know of anyone I should invite that I might not know well or might not think about? I'll talk to Phillis about Balqeez and Aqeel's family. I have no idea whether Balq. would enter a Christian church? We have had quite a last two days- shower in 2 bedroom cottage leaked all over the bedroom floor- carpet removed by Eric and Jerry- plumber called and fixed leak under the floor! New laminate installed today by E. &J. Thankfully the Irish family in there are fantastic- Catholic from Belfast but just the best tenants ever with two girls -one older than Emily and one younger- the three love each other dearly! Off to bed, after many loads of dirty laundry- this is my first blog ever- hope I can remember how i did it. Love Lynne

  6. Suesue, thanks for blog. It's my first contribution to a blog ever! Lynne you are not alone.
Corn at home after sounds fun. Fewer people, less shucking also!
Please count me in as a contributor to Costco run.
Would we need paper plates etc, or would we use church dishes?
I assume we would bring our own coffee, tea, sugar and cream.
    I shall bring two pies!
Uncle Herb and all cousins should be on the invite list (most won't be able to come, I'm sure): Herb, James, Katy and 2 kids, Sheila, Stewart and family, Heather and Patrick, Kathryn and Ken (and kids). Also, Aqeel's Toronto family members: Ammi (Balquis), Sadia, Neil and kids, Sobia.
I'm bringing my cello fer shoor!
I'll get candles that spell out "90" so poor papa only has two to blow out!
I shall report on the availability of Anderson House in Oshawa soon.
    Love to you all, Philly

  7. Hi all!
I've got Susie over my shoulder as a guide for my first blog entry ever! I'm so excited to be involved in Murray's 90th. Maybe I can trace his fam tree as a fun connect. Susie will organize me for baking/buying. Talk soon. BOB

  8. Lynne, when your invitation is ready I'll send it by email to the people I've mentioned, as it's the best way to communicate with them. The younger family members get the news by email and tell the older ones! I'm pretty sure costco is good at putting it all together, but let it be known if you want help with food list. Anything other than costco and pies that we need to organize? Why not call me sometime when Dad's out and we can brainstorm. Phil
